Project HairCare (PHC) Operators of cohorts I and II stated they wished there was a program like Project HairCare when they started their careers. Mental health concerns are freely heard in the shop chair. Clients are often eager to share. This is especially true in these trusted spaces. Based on this feedback, Dr. Reed worked diligently to secure a partnership with Emily Griffith Technical College, located in Downtown Denver, 1860 Lincoln Street, Denver, CO 80203.
Emily Griffith is the public, postsecondary, and adult education component of the Denver Public School system. It was founded in 1916. They strive to remove barriers in the education system and their motto is “real skills for the real world”. They feature a number of programs including barbering and cosmetology.
On September 24, 2024, Dr. Reed and Richardson were able to give a brief presentation about the program to 6 classes of diverse barbering and cosmetology students. Dean Sara K.Holzberlein hosted us in the classrooms and shared the importance and sustainability of their profession. She also highlighted the importance of gaining skills related to mental health and wellness. The students were focused and some expressed interest in signing up for the program.
PHC is excited for the opportunity to connect with the students. Several of our operators have agreed to assist once the student sessions are scheduled.
