Alfredia Conner was born and raised in San Bernardino, California. She graduated from Pacific High School. She was impressed and wanted to be a nurse after deciding to train as a nurse’s aide. She then earned a vocational nursing license (LVN) from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California.
After about one year in practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Loma Linda University Hospital, she moved to Denver where she worked at Porter Adventist Hospital for two years. She returned in the summer of 1987 from Addis Ababa as a missionary. From 1992-1993, she pursued a career in nursing and then in 1993, received her Associates Degree in nursing. Her nursing specialty interests are cardiovascular, diabetes and breast health. She has enjoyed her nursing career for the last forty-seven years.
Alfredia served as a parish/congregational nurse for the Park Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church as Health Ministries Leader. She also served at the Center for African American Health as a breast health navigator, health educator, health advocate, health counselor and health advisor from 2002-2012. From this, Alfredia developed a passion for community work and found it the most rewarding and successful.
That is why she and her husband started a Barbershop/Salon outreach Program in collaboration with the Colorado Black Health Collaborative (CBHC). As a component of this program, she presently is part of the team that is focusing on mental health challenges in the Black community. She is excited to be part of Project Haircare, a CBHC program, believing we need to understand and identify wellness strategies which are critical to your overall mental health.
